How many chest compressions should be performed each minute when giving CPR?

Adult CPRCPR (CardioPulmonary resuscitation) is a lifesaving skill used when a patient suffers a cardiac arrest. This means their heart has stopped beating and they are no longer breathing normally.

CPR is comprised of chest compressions and rescue breaths designed to keep the patient alive until a defibrillator and further medical help arrives.

When delivering chest compressions, between 100 – 120 chest compressions should be performed each minute when giving CPR.

It is important to deliver this rate of chest compressions as CPR is not effective if the rate of chest compressions is too slow.
